Peacock in a Scarf

Yesterday morning Julia (age 5) brought me this charming little drawing of a peacock wearing a scarf:

I love this picture. And so, when I sat down to do my own little warmup sketch for the day, I decided to try my hand at my own Peacock in a Scarf. It kind of moved out of "warm up sketch" territory and into "I'm spending too much time on this when I should be drawing pages of my book" territory, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

Even if it doesn't have as much character as Julia's version.

It's definitely not easy to capture the character that five-year-olds often put into their art.

Awesome job on your version!

That is an incredibly talented five year old.

It's the winsome smile, that gets one. He could be a character in a book, himself!

hello there ! I'm a french librarian who just buy Zita, la fille de l'espace (french title ;)) for my Library. I was wandering on your website and fall on that absolutely wonderfull drawing.
And I was wondering if you know le Muz (if you don't, go and take a look, you daughter deserve to be there ! http://lemuz.org/).
Two french Young littérature author associate to create a museeum of pieces drawn by children. That's a very nice place, with wonderfull work. Some french illustrators also send some drawings of their childhood.
Well, I thought you may be interested in (and sorry for my English, who may be not very understandible !)
btw, un grand Bravo pour Zita !
Lucie
