Pizzicato 2

The Mouse from the last post is Pizzicato, the oversized rodent in my Zita the Spacegirl story. Because what’s a graphic novel without a giant mouse that you can ride on? Seriously? Ironically, he was driven from his clan for being a runt, among other things. Poor thing. They shredded his ear.

I’m now working on the colors for the book, and tightening up some of the drawings. If all goes according to plan (ha! When has that happened?!?) I’ll have still have some time at the end of the summer for painting. Probably just some still lifes, but who knows?

Meantime, here’s something from my growing pile of crazy robot/creature designs:

i like this little guy, and pizzicato is a great name. query: did they shred his right ear, or his left, or both?

Thanks Jaime! The bigger mice shredded his left ear. The picture in this post is an earlier version.

These mice are great--are you using a real mouse as a model?

Yeah, sort of. One time the girls caught a mouse in a bucket and I did a set of sketches of it (work from life whenever possible!). Otherwise I've got a little collection of pictures of real mice.

But I have to be careful because sometimes he comes out a little ratty.

Pizzicato - now that is the perfect name for a mouse.

Thanks Abigail! The girls really seized on the name too and it's really cute when I hear them talk about Pizzicato.

Love your style Ben!
I miss all the Zita comics.
I still have the webpage linked and keep watching for them to return, but I know it has to wait for your book.

Isn't Pizzicato a type of Music? Mouse is my favorite character. Can you teach me how to draw him?
