Cover Girl

Happy Memorial Day Everyone. Here's a little something:

That's Right! A little sneak peek at the cover of Book One of the Zita the Spacegirl set! The book will be out in stores this winter. I’ll post a pre-order date soon and I may even get so excited that I’ll put up one of those fancy little counters to count down the days. Still, here at the beginning of summer it seems like a looong wait.

Comics, creatures and candy after the jump.

Right. Still here? Here's the full wrap around cover:

As you can see, the whole thing is a pretty busy, chock-full illustration. But I think in the end it all hangs together nicely.

At the moment I’m in the very midst of production on the second ZSG book. Like the first book, this story has given me the opportunity to draw a copious collection of crazy creatures. I have to say, creature design is one of the perks of this job. Here are just a few:

Also: Cow Tails! Man, I love COW TAILS! I know everyone has different tastes in cheap candies with unlimited shelf-life but, boy howdy and all the little howdies, cow tails are my current top contender! Strangely, the company website seems to want us to believe that Cow Tails are also a health food of some sort ...but I’m just not buying into that. Nice try Cow Tails.

Finally, I should mention that my pal Kean’s book, Jellaby: Monster in the City, is on sale at Amazon for a mere four bucks. In this book, kids, a kind-hearted monster and the color purple blend to form a very satisfying graphic novel adventure.
