Cover Girl

Happy Memorial Day Everyone. Here's a little something:

That's Right! A little sneak peek at the cover of Book One of the Zita the Spacegirl set! The book will be out in stores this winter. I’ll post a pre-order date soon and I may even get so excited that I’ll put up one of those fancy little counters to count down the days. Still, here at the beginning of summer it seems like a looong wait.

Comics, creatures and candy after the jump.

Right. Still here? Here's the full wrap around cover:

As you can see, the whole thing is a pretty busy, chock-full illustration. But I think in the end it all hangs together nicely.

At the moment I’m in the very midst of production on the second ZSG book. Like the first book, this story has given me the opportunity to draw a copious collection of crazy creatures. I have to say, creature design is one of the perks of this job. Here are just a few:

Also: Cow Tails! Man, I love COW TAILS! I know everyone has different tastes in cheap candies with unlimited shelf-life but, boy howdy and all the little howdies, cow tails are my current top contender! Strangely, the company website seems to want us to believe that Cow Tails are also a health food of some sort ...but I’m just not buying into that. Nice try Cow Tails.

Finally, I should mention that my pal Kean’s book, Jellaby: Monster in the City, is on sale at Amazon for a mere four bucks. In this book, kids, a kind-hearted monster and the color purple blend to form a very satisfying graphic novel adventure.

Ben: The cover looks fantastic! I am so proud of you! I think I recognize the fellow playing the whistle in the background. I want to pre-order a dozen copies.

Woooo! Nice job! You should have a giveaway on your blog too! That's what they do on all the craft blogs I read!

Very nice! I look forward to seeing it in the fall.

I'm right there with you on the Cow Tails. I've had to kick the addiction to them a number of times. Even went so far as to become addicted to the chocolate variety. And while some may say chocolate cow tails are an abomination, I believe that while they may not be due the level of praise appropriate to regular cow tails, chocolate cow tails have their charms and deserve favorable regard.

Thanks everybody! (anche grazie te, Anna).

Hey Jake, I still can't believe you did such an amazing job on the Missile Mouse books in less than half the time it takes me. Although, rumor has it that you finally stooped to cloning...

and my mom continues to be my biggest fan.

Annie: I'll definitely be doing some kind of cool giveaways when the time comes.

And Tim... I appreciate your comment but... but... I just don't think I'll ever try chocolate cow tails!

So, Ben, do you have a place where we can order and get a signed copy?

Thanks Walker! I'm so glad your daughter enjoyed the book! I wish the second one was coming out sooner, but we'll both have to wait 'till September I guess. In the meantime I'll post comics and updates and whatever else I can think of.
